Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review – A Smart Cleaning Companion for Pet Owners and Allergy Sufferers
Disclosure: Hoover kindly provided the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim Robot Vacuum Cleaner for the purposes of this review. As always, all opinions are entirely my own, and after using the robot daily for the past month, I’ve thoroughly put it through its paces around my home.
First Impressions
Over the years I’ve owned and tested several robot vacuum cleaners, so I had high expectations when the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim arrived. Robot vacuums have come a long way in recent years, but there’s still a noticeable difference between models when it comes to navigation, cleaning performance and overall convenience.

After using the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim for around a month throughout my home, I’m pleased to say it has quickly become part of my daily routine. From carpets upstairs to hardwood flooring downstairs, it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it with very little intervention from me.
As someone who suffers from a dust allergy and also shares my home with two cats, I needed a robot vacuum that could tackle both fine dust and endless amounts of pet hair without simply pushing it around the floor. Thankfully, the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim has proved more than capable.
Fast Setup and Accurate Home Mapping
One of the biggest improvements I’ve noticed compared to older robot vacuums I’ve owned is just how quick the initial setup process was.

Using the Hoover app, connecting the vacuum to my Wi-Fi network was straightforward and within minutes it had started creating a detailed map of my home. I was genuinely impressed by how quickly and accurately it mapped each room. There was very little manual adjustment needed afterwards, allowing me to start scheduling cleans almost immediately.
The app also allows you to customise your cleaning routine by selecting individual rooms, creating schedules and setting exclusion zones. I particularly like the exclusion zone feature as it allows me to prevent the robot from entering areas where I know there may be obstacles or items temporarily left on the floor.
Quiet Enough to Forget It’s Working
One feature I’ve grown to appreciate is just how quietly the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim operates.
Each morning I have it scheduled to clean the upstairs while I’m downstairs having breakfast. Despite it working away overhead, I barely notice it’s there. The relatively quiet operation means it doesn’t interrupt conversations or become distracting, making it easy to leave running while getting on with other jobs around the house.
Being able to automate cleaning like this is exactly why robot vacuums are becoming increasingly popular. Rather than finding time to vacuum myself, the HG250HP simply gets on with the job while I focus on something else.
Excellent Performance on Carpets and Hard Floors
My home is made up of a mixture of carpets upstairs and hardwood flooring downstairs, giving the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim plenty of different surfaces to tackle.
It transitions between flooring types with ease and consistently leaves both looking noticeably cleaner. What surprised me most wasn’t just how well it cleaned visible dirt, but how much hidden dust it managed to collect.
Even after using my traditional upright vacuum cleaner, I was amazed by the amount of dust, hair and debris the robot continued to pick up. It’s one of those products that quickly makes you realise your floors weren’t quite as clean as you thought they were.
For anyone with pets, this is where the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim really shines.
Ideal for Homes with Cats
Living with two cats means pet hair is a constant battle. No matter how often you vacuum, there always seems to be another collection of fur waiting around the next corner.
Thankfully, the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim makes light work of it.

Whether it’s hair gathered on carpets, hardwood flooring or around skirting boards, the robot consistently picks it up during its daily cleaning routine. Running it every morning has significantly reduced the amount of pet hair I notice around the house, helping keep the floors looking cleaner between deeper cleans.
If you own cats or dogs, having a robot vacuum working automatically every day makes a noticeable difference.
A Great Choice for Allergy Sufferers
One of the reasons I was particularly interested in testing this model was its HEPA filtration system.
As someone who suffers from a dust allergy, I’m always conscious of products that simply stir fine dust back into the air rather than trapping it.
The inclusion of a HEPA filter gave me confidence that fine dust and allergens would be captured more effectively, making it a worthwhile feature for anyone living with allergies or asthma. Combined with daily automatic cleaning, I’ve found the house generally feels fresher throughout the week.
It’s one of those features that may not immediately grab attention on the specification sheet, but in everyday use it becomes genuinely valuable.
Surprisingly Effective Mopping
Most of my upstairs is carpeted, so vacuuming naturally remains my primary use for the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim. However, I was keen to try the integrated mopping function on the hard flooring throughout the house.
I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting miracles, but I came away pleasantly surprised.
While I don’t enable the mopping function during every clean, it’s excellent for maintaining hard floors between more thorough manual mops. It removes light everyday marks and helps keep floors looking fresh with very little effort required from me.
It’s not intended to replace a deep manual clean, but as part of a regular maintenance routine it works remarkably well.

Smart Navigation with a Few Common Sense Precautions
The navigation system has been consistently reliable throughout my testing.
Like virtually every robot vacuum I’ve owned over the years, cables remain its biggest challenge. If charging cables or loose wires are left lying across the floor, there’s always the possibility the robot will become tangled.
Fortunately, that’s easily avoided.
Before the scheduled clean starts each morning I simply ensure any loose cables are tucked away. Once that’s done, the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim navigates confidently around furniture and obstacles with very few issues.
Its low-profile design has also been a real advantage. It easily reaches underneath beds, furniture and even underneath my wall-mounted bathroom sink – areas that are often awkward to reach with a conventional vacuum cleaner. Those hidden spaces tend to collect surprising amounts of dust, making the extra reach particularly useful.
App Features That Work Without Overcomplicating Things
The Hoover app strikes a nice balance between offering useful functionality without becoming overly complicated.
Scheduling, mapping and room selection are all intuitive, while the exclusion zones provide additional flexibility depending on what’s happening around the house.
The remote control function is also available, although if I’m being honest I’ve only used it once. It’s a nice feature to have, but because the robot maps the house so effectively and follows its schedule without any fuss, I simply haven’t found myself needing to manually drive it around.
For me, the appeal of a robot vacuum is that it quietly gets on with cleaning by itself—and that’s exactly what the HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim does.

Final Thoughts
After a month of daily use, the Hoover HG2 Hydro ProTurboSlim has genuinely earned its place in my home.
It delivers excellent cleaning performance across both carpets and hard flooring, copes brilliantly with the constant challenge of pet hair, and offers welcome peace of mind thanks to its HEPA filtration for allergy sufferers like myself. Add in fast mapping, reliable scheduling, useful exclusion zones and surprisingly capable mopping, and it becomes an easy robot vacuum to recommend.
No robot vacuum is completely maintenance-free, and you’ll still want to tidy away loose cables before each clean, but that’s something I’ve found to be true of every robot vacuum I’ve owned over the years.
For anyone looking to reduce the time spent vacuuming, particularly those with pets or allergies, the Hoover HG250HP offers an excellent balance of intelligent features, strong cleaning performance and everyday convenience. After putting it through its paces over the past month, it’s a robot vacuum I’ll happily continue using long after this review has been published.
